TAI HE 101 Sets Sail for a Bountiful Season

Vessel Completes Annual Maintenance and Heads for the North Pacific

TAI HE 101, a squid jigging vessel under Seaworth Holding Co., Ltd.’s Hua Sheng Squid Jigging Division, has departed from Kaohsiung following two months of annual maintenance and equipment preparations. Bound for the North Pacific, the vessel will begin a new season of Pacific saury fishing. Its multinational crew brings together professionals from Taiwan, South Korea, China, Indonesia, and the Philippines, combining teamwork and clearly defined responsibilities to undertake the next distant-water fishing voyage.

During the vessel’s time in port, the Group continued to invest in personnel development through structured training, strengthening officers’ understanding of international requirements and vessel management. Sessions covered North Pacific transshipment and vessel rendezvous requirements, high seas boarding and inspection procedures, and practical topics including emergency medical care, crew working-hour management, onboard Wi-Fi usage policies, and routine equipment inspections. These efforts helped officers and crew members strengthen their professional judgment and emergency response capabilities while reinforcing regulatory compliance and safety management.

The annual maintenance program included comprehensive inspections, repairs, and upgrades across the vessel’s propulsion, refrigeration, fishing, deck machinery, firefighting, and navigation systems. Work covered key equipment, including the main and auxiliary engines, refrigeration systems and piping, fish pumps, fish grading machines, and fish-attracting lights used in Pacific saury fishing. Deck hydraulic systems, lighting, watertight fittings, and associated safety equipment were also serviced to improve equipment reliability, navigational safety, and operational performance at sea.

The refurbishment of saury fishing equipment, fish grading systems, and freezing equipment further improved efficiency and system reliability throughout the process, from capture and catch handling to freezing and preservation. These improvements help maintain catch freshness and quality while enhancing the vessel’s overall production performance.

Alongside improvements to vessel performance, the Group strengthened its marine environmental management measures. The oily water separator, sewage treatment plant, incinerator, and other pollution prevention equipment were inspected and serviced during the maintenance period. This work enhanced pollution prevention and waste treatment capabilities, helping reduce the environmental impact of distant-water operations and integrate environmental management into everyday vessel operations.

Guided by its commitment to putting people first, the Group also improved the crew’s living environment. Central air-conditioning, drinking-water, hot-water, and shower facilities were serviced or renewed, and crew bedding was replaced. Drinking-water quality testing, pest control, and disinfection were also carried out to improve accommodation quality and hygiene during extended periods at sea.

To meet applicable flag State and international maritime safety requirements, TAI HE 101 underwent annual vessel inspections and examinations of firefighting and lifesaving equipment. These covered fire alarm systems, lifesaving appliances, emergency escape arrangements, and firefighting equipment. Before departure, health and safety checks also addressed drinking water, medical supplies, living and working conditions, garbage and waste management, and navigation, communications, and safety equipment, supporting crew health and safe navigation.

On departure day, TAI HE 101 completed the Coast Guard Administration’s boarding inspection and the National Immigration Agency’s departure checks before leaving the harbor amid warm wishes from Group employees and crew members. The vessel then set course for the North Pacific. From equipment performance and safety management to environmental protection and crew welfare, every aspect of the two-month maintenance and preparation period reflected the combined efforts of shoreside and seagoing teams.
