2025 “Ocean Feast” Opens — Six Fishing Ports Join Forces to Showcase Kaohsiung’s Coastal Flavors

The joint press conference for the 2025 Ocean Feast, organized by the Kaohsiung City Marine Bureau, was held with great fanfare on the morning of October 29 at the plaza in front of the Fengshan Administration Center.

The event gathered an impressive lineup of guests, including Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-Mai, City Council Speaker Kang Yu-Cheng, Civil Affairs Bureau Director Yan Ching-Chih, Marine Bureau Director Shih Ching-Feng, several city councilors, and representatives from local fishermen’s associations. Together, they officially launched the month-long celebration, as fishing communities across six ports gear up to share the rich diversity and oceanic charm that define Kaohsiung as a true maritime city.

Chairman Huang Yi-Mao Highlights Sustainable Fisheries and Local Prosperity

Huang Yi-Mao, Chairman of Fair Well Fishery and head of the Kaohsiung Fishermen’s Association, was invited to speak at the event. In his remarks, he expressed gratitude to the city government for its long-term support of the fishing industry and emphasized the importance of promoting local seafood.
“Fisheries are not only the roots of Kaohsiung,” he said, “but also a vital foundation for preserving local culture and ensuring industrial sustainability.”

Kaohsiung serves as a major hub for Taiwan’s fishing sector, covering offshore, coastal, and aquaculture operations. With an annual yield of 611,000 metric tons and an output value exceeding NT$50 billion, the city accounts for 58.8% of national production and 50.3% of total value—ranking first in Taiwan. Through the Ocean Feast integrated marketing platform, the initiative has become more than a seafood celebration; it blends tourism, culture, and industry promotion, transforming into one of Kaohsiung’s signature annual events that recognizes and supports the hard work of local fishermen.

Regional Fishermen’s Associations Take the Stage to Showcase Local Flavors

This year’s Ocean Feast brings together six fishermen’s associations, each presenting regional specialties that reflect Kaohsiung’s diverse coastal culture. Among them, Qianzhen Fishing Port—the largest deep-sea port in Taiwan—will headline the finale event, Kaohsiung Tuna, Squid & Pacific Saury Festival, taking place on December 13–14. Three major industry associations will join forces to showcase the richness of Kaohsiung’s distant-water fisheries:

  • Purse Seine Association: Exhibiting 30–40 varieties of canned seafood exported to Europe and the United States, highlighting Taiwan’s global seafood processing expertise.

  • Squid & Saury Association: Hosting live grilling and BBQ of squid and saury, filling the air with the irresistible aroma of the sea.

  • Tuna Association: Serving up the freshest southern bluefin tuna sashimi, offering visitors a taste of exceptional quality and freshness.

The event features interactive exhibits, tasting booths, and cultural showcases, inviting the public to experience the passion and creativity of Kaohsiung’s fishing industry firsthand.

Promoting Marine Culture and Sustainable Industry — Building Kaohsiung’s Ocean Brand

Through close collaboration between the city government and local fishermen’s associations, the Ocean Feast not only promotes locally sourced seafood but also deepens public appreciation for Kaohsiung’s rich maritime heritage. As an active member of Kaohsiung’s deep-sea fishing sector, Hua Wei Fishery remains committed to professionalism and social responsibility—supporting stronger seafood marketing, enhancing brand value, and helping shape Kaohsiung’s identity as a “marine city born from its fishing ports.”
